I grew up in the teeny, tiny town of New Salem, North Dakota...home of Salem Sue, the world's largest Holstein cow. Yup.
Growing up, I always had a strong comfort behind a camera. I would seriously take pictures of everything and absolutely anything. Living on a ranch, subjects were never in short supply! My mom would take rolls of film to be developed, (yes, I just used 'film' & 'developed' in the same sentance), & she would come home just livid because there were 23 photos of Bubba, my favorite steer.
In 2007, I enrolled in Bismarck State College's Graphic Design & Communication Course. One of the core curriculum classes was a photography class. I was in heaven. For the first year, we had to use a 35mm SLR and develop everything ourselves in the darkroom, which was an experience unlike any other. To this day, I still want to paint a room black & buy a red lightbulb. It gave me a true sense of the subject.
In 2008, I took my first senior portraits with my little Nikon 35mm SLR. Granted, they were my twin brothers, but that doesn't mean the critiques weren't as serious! After that, I got asked to take more and more and eventually, engagements, weddings, kids & families were thrown into the mix.
My style is natural light photojournalistic. Not going to lie, I'm not a 'poser'...I have a heck of a time trying to figure out where & how people should stand & why. Personally, I don't believe this captures a person's true meaning and personality. Photographs should tell a story, & that's what I try to deliver.
I also have my degree in Graphic Design, (which I LOVE), so if you have any questions about anything, please don't hesitate to ask. I love, love, love what I do, & because of that, I love, love, love helping anybody in any way I can :)
